I made a quick trip to Kroger today to get in the the General Mills cereal and granola bar deal. It was  a bit chaotic but I did get some free dish soap so that was great.

Here are the deals I got:

Final cost=$.74 ea

2 Cheerios-$1.49
-$1/2 from 9/19 SS
Final cost=$.99 ea

Dawn Hand Renewal-$1
-$1/1 from Home Made Simple book
Final cost=Free

Crest Kids Toothpaste-$1

-$1/1 from PG insert

Muir Glen Pasta Sauce (my favorite)-$2.50

I am sure that I got a few more deals but I cannot remember them and I do not have my receipt! I had to go to the customer service desk after checking out to correct the prices on two boxes or my cereal. It all worked out in the end but it did take a little time and I forgot to get my receipt back.
Also the Chex Mix is on sale this week, but they were all out at my Kroger today-sad. The Nature Valley Granola bars were not included in the sale, although the customer service lady said they were yesterday. ????

Did you get any good deals this week?

  1. so you post about NV granola bars being on that $6 deal and then now they are not? Again you waste people’s time. Do your homework before you post stuff or check out for yourself.

I would not say she is wasting our time, Katie is saving all of us more time that you can imagine and $$$$ too!!!! Did you go to specifically buy the granola bars yourself??? She did and then informed us of the change. If you don’t like her posts, then do your own research and don’t bash someone who helps us all a great deal more than any of us say thank you for.

  3. I went to Kroger on Sunday and they had a sign saying the NV granola bars were included in the $6 off sale but when I bought 4 boxes of them, they did not ring up with $6 off. Coupon Katie does not have time to go to each store and check out each ad before she posts. I appreciate all the work she does to help us all save money!

  4. Mmslattery says:

I second that! Katie’s doing a GREAT job! They may have changed the ad or not given our city a deal that they gave another city. It happens.

By the way, did you happen to notice if Fiber One bars were included in the promotion, Katie?

  5. They are not as of right now at the Ft. City Kroger. Even though they were on a sign right by the customer service desk advertising the sale. ?? The man who was called up to the desk to help with my cereal question said the whole promotion has been a bit of a mess. He thought it was supposed to be a regional deal but it got advertised everywhere.
I do know that several of the cereals were marked and the Chex mix (although all gone today) was marked.

  6. well, on 10/25 she posted this..http://couponkatie.com/krogerfree-chex-mix-cheap-cereal-and-granola-bars/ and it was on there. So before posting a hot deal like that she should have checked it out. Instead of copying and pasting off someone’s site that may not be in our region.

  8. I went to Kroger on Sunday. The shelf tag said that Nature Valley granola bars were included in the $6 off sale. But the shelves were empty!? I was disappointed because we really like them and I had coupons. Who knows what happened. Kroger runs so many sales I think that sometimes they just can’t keep up!

  9. Honeysmith says:

I also found few variations in my neighborhood Kroger in South Knoxville. For instance, the kid’s toothpaste was not $1 and the nv granola bars were included, but the shelves were devoid of them, and the Post cereal catalina deal did not generate the catalina and I, too had to go to customer service. And a couple other deals I read about on another website were not on sale at my Kroger even though this other site was in our region. I think Kroger is having some issues. Yes, Katie-we appreciate all you do! Hallie-don’t “shoot the messenger!”

  10. Well so she might of got ONE wrong, how much though has she saved you? We all get stuff wrong, and it sounds as though it was the store and NOT Katie’s fault. Cut her some slack, I ALWAYS go to the store thinking I may or may not be able to get the deals posted on ALL websites. It’s just the way it is, if you don’t like it then don’t follow frugal sites, cause they have all been wrong multiple times, but they are right most of the time and I love them all!

  12. I don’t see any reason for you to be so ungrateful. I believe reading your post actually wasted my time and to compensate for my time being wasted, I have to waste more of your time by replying so you can read my opinion of you. Your opinion is that Katie is wasting your time (again). Fine, there’s a simple solution to that but you obviously have not figured it out yet… (I mean for you to stop reading her posts if you haven’t figured it out by now). So you tell her to do her homework… just be thankful she did some work whereas you sat there and took her word without putting any of your own effort into it. This scenario can be compared to a kid who copies homework from a friend and then gets mad at the friend for having one wrong answer. Ridiculous. Katie has many regional deals posted that I have not found on other frugal sites. She does do her “homework,” and I can say for sure that she wasn’t wrong in posting the granola bars being in the $6 deal (I can say this because I’ve bought the granola bars and it WAS included in the deal… it was posted as being part of the deal on the shelf and I’ve got the receipt to prove it). With her three/four boys, do you really think she has the time to check out everything for you? Can you not do anything for yourself? Seriously. You said she wasted “people’s” time. Are you a “people?” I don’t consider her wasting any of my time. I choose to read her postings, and I am abashed that you believe you can speak up for me and others. Please choose your words carefully next time and take into consideration feelings of others especially if you decide to say hurtful things. Kudos to her for not letting you get under her skin seeing as you have definitely gotten under mine.

The problem is not with Katie. The problem came from Kroger Corporate who messed up their promotional advertising of the deal. They made the mistake in advertising that the granola bars were included, and the STORES had to figure out for themselves (after contacting GM) where the error occurred. As I understand it, it’s now a store-by-store issue. Some are honoring the granola bars being included, others not.

And obviously, customers aren’t finding out until they go to the store. Katie, like most EVERY great couponista out there, posts deals based on the local/regional sale flyers. Sometimes there are differences, even between same-city stores. And for what it’s worth, I don’t even have kids like she does, and can’t imagine having the time to drop what I was doing to get out to stores the MINUTE a deal comes to my attention so I could check it out, then run home to ALSO be able to post it in a timely manner. If you have that time, Hallie, have at it, by all means! 🙂

  15. The customer service rep, at the Middlebrook Kroger today, knew immediately why our Kroger has Chex and cereals only and my friend had just gotten Fiber One bars and cereals only (Chex was excluded) at the Oak Ridge Kroger. He said even within the Atlanta circular area, a promotion like this can vary from store to store depending on what sells best at that store. He said that Fiber One bars obviously sell better in Oak Ridge and that Chex mix sells better in West Knox. Go figure. The paper ad only shows Cheerios and says “select varieties,” so no store has to honor anything they’ve heard is going on at other stores. Basically, except for products marked on the shelf or Cheerios specifically, you are just getting lucky if you get $6 off for buying four of something. Anyone who would knock a blogger who spends tons of time saving folks money needs some self-examination.

  16. Grateful for the tip, I got some good buys on cereal. Did not find fiber one on sale and Clinton Highway Kroger did not find the Chex mix. But, again, happy for the tip on cereal. Thanks
