My CVS Trip: The Plan & The Reality

I had a $10 ECB that expired tomorrow so, the boys and I ran by CVS today on our way to the pool. Here is what I had planned/hoped to buy:

Zyrtec 24 hr Tablets (5ct.)-$5.99, Get $5.99 ECB (Limit 1)
$2/1 Zyrtec Product
Bayer Advanced Aspirin (20ct)-$3, Get $1 ECB (limit 1)
-$2/1 coupon from the 6/12 SS
Schick Hydro 3 or Hydro 5 razor (1 ct)-$8 , Get $4 ECB (limit 1)
-$4/1 coupon from the 6/12 SS
2 Colgate total whitening -on sale Buy One Get One Free- $2.39
– $.75/1 from the 6/5 SS
-$1/1 from Kroger insert 6/12
-my $10 ECB

In theory:
Out of Pocket=just a little tax
Get Back=$10.99 in ECB

However, the CVS I stopped out was out of everything but the razor. So this is what I actually did:

Schick Hydro 5 razor (1 ct)-$8 , Get $4 ECB (limit 1)
-$4/1 coupon from the 6/12 SS
Schick Hydro 5 cartridges (4ct)-$8.79, Get $4 ECB (limit 1)
-$2/1 Schick refill coupon from the 6/12 SS
-my $10 ECB

Out of Pocket= $2.34 ($1.55 in tax)
Got Back=$8 in ECB

This is why it is always good to have a back up plan when drug store shopping. You never know what deal will work best until you see what is in stock.

  1. LOVESIT says:

Katie- not sure if you knew this or not but CVS will give you Rainchecks for items WITH the ECBs.  I know that Walgreens can’t “manually” print the RRs, but CVS can manually print the ECB’s.  So if something is on sale and out (which was my scenario last night as well), always get your raincheck, you’ll get the sale price AND they will manually print your ECB’s at the end of the transaction when you use it.  That’s why I LOVE CVS 🙂

  2. Great tip w/ the rainchecks. It is one reason I like CVS more than Wags. However with 3 kids in tow, 2 bouncing up and down excited about getting to the pool I did not get any today.
