Kids Summer Reading Programs 2012

Time to get ready for all the fun summer reading programs going on around town. Get your logs and journals printed out now to get your kids excited. These programs are great-they keep the kids reading and they offer a lot of frugal family fun. ( I am sure The Pigeon Books will be on our list this summer.)

Tennessee Smokies

If you live in the Knoxville area this is a program that you will want to check out. The Tennessee Smokies Summer Reading Program is for Smokies fans 12-and-under.

There are five levels of participation that are to be completed by each child participating. To complete a level all your child has to do is read 10 books, 10 chapters, or have 10 books read to him/her (if your child is not reading yet). Once your child has completed his/her first level, bring the Level 1 reading program form to the ticket office at Smokies Park, and exchange it for prizes and free tickets to a Smokies game. We did this last summer and it was great! Here are the rest of the details:

LEVEL 1 – The Single: Two Smokies tickets, a Shoney’s bookmark and one ride pass at The Track!

LEVEL 2 – The Double: Two Smokies tickets, a Shoney’s pencil and a $12 VIP pass at The Track !

LEVEL 3 – The Triple: Two Smokies tickets, a Shoney’s eraser and a $12 VIP pass at The Track!

LEVEL 4 – The Home Run: Two Smokies tickets, one Knoxville Zoo ticket, a FREE Shoney’s dessert and a two-hour arm band at The Track!

LEVEL 5 – The Grand Slam: Two tickets to our August 8 picnic at Smokies Park, a ticket to the Knoxville Zoo, a FREE Shoney’s dessert, a Smokies card set, a voucher for a Shoney’s Healthy Kids Meal and a $54 VIP pass at The Track!

PBS Kids Summer Reading Challenge

This challenge kicks off on June 6th and includes a Free six week reading program and the chance for your kids to win daily prizes for their participation.

Knox County Library: Summer Library Club Rewards

This is one of my favorite reading programs. My guys are still young enough to snuggle me on the couch while we read. Last year they loved circling the pictures on their charts.

1. Register as a Reader or a Listener online or at any library location. Readers read for 15 hours. Listeners (for those not quite reading yet) listen to 30 books being read to them.

2. Pick up a reading log at any Library location, or download one (for Readers or for Listeners).

3. Read!

4. Take your completed log back to the Library to pick up your great prize!

And don’t forget to visit the Library. They have great free programs all summer long. Check the Lirbrary’s event calendar for a complete schedule.

Blount County Summer Reading Club

For all of you in Blount County your library’s Summer Reading Club kicks off Saturday June 2nd! It is on their events calendar but other info is not up yet!

Sevier County Summer Reading Program

Sevier County also has a Summer Reading Program.  Details are not yet available for 2012 but a Coupon Katie Facebook comment said last year was great! I’ll update when they release this years program.

Borders and Barnes and Noble both had reading programs last summer. They have not announced for the 2012 season but I will update as I see new information. If you know of any great summer reading programs not included leave a comment and share.
