Knoxville Zoo Half Price Admission During Penguin Discount Days

Screen Shot 2012-12-03 at 9.45.35 AM

The Knoxville Zoo has announced their Penguin Discount Days! Beginning Dec. 1, 2012 and continuing through Feb. 28, 2013, admission to Knoxville Zoo is half-off.

If you have read this blog long you know I am a huge fan of the Knoxville Zoo. We get a yearly family pass, it is affordable and allows us to take the boys often. If you do not have a Zoo membership Penguin Discount Days are a great chance to visit the Knoxville Zoo.

Why visit the Knoxville Zoo in the winter?

Many of the zoo’s animals enjoy the crisp weather and are more active on cooler days. The zoo’s favorite indoor exhibit, Wee Play Zoo, is a cozy place to stop and play if you do happen to get a little chilly. And on days when the temperature drops below 40 degrees, some animals will be moved to their indoor enclosures, but even on the coldest days of the year visitors can still see elephants, gorillas, penguins, reptiles, and bears in their indoor viewing areas.

Half-price admission tickets can be purchased at the zoo ticket office during regular zoo hours. Tickets can also be purchased at all Knoxville area Kroger stores and online at www.knoxvillezoo.org. Discounted admission tickets must be used by Feb. 29, 2012, and cannot be combined with any other promotion, discount, or coupon.

Free Admission to Knoxville Zoo November 10th & 11th, 2012, Reminder

knoxville-zoo-logo

Just a reminder that you can visit the Knoxville Zoo for free this weekend and help a few great local organizations!

Visitors to Knoxville Zoo will enjoy free admission and parking during the zoo’s annual Kroger Free Weekend on Saturday, Nov. 10, and Sunday, Nov. 11, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (Last admissions are one hour before closing at 3:30 p.m.)

Knoxville Zoo hosts Kroger Free Weekend to give everyone the opportunity to visit the zoo, say thanks for the community support the zoo receives throughout the year and help other local non-profit organizations.  Although a donation is not required for free admission to Knoxville Zoo, Free Weekend visitors are encouraged to bring donated items to help Mission of Hope, Young-Williams Animal Center, the Blount County Humane Society and PAWS of Knoxville.

Mission of Hope is a volunteer organization providing assistance, aid and resources to those living in poverty-stricken areas in rural Appalachia.  In order to help meet the increased demand of the holiday season, they are requesting donations of non-perishable food items, new children’s toys and hygiene items such as tooth brushes, toothpaste, dental floss, bar soap, deodorant and shampoo.

The Young-Williams Animal Center serves the community by providing compassionate care to animals, working to find homes for adoptable pets, providing affordable spaying and neutering services and educational programs about animal welfare. The center is in need of dry and canned dog, cat, puppy and kitten food.

The Blount County Humane Society shelters homeless and abused animals and places puppies, kittens, dogs and cats in loving, responsible homes.  They are requesting donations of Purina brand dog, cat, puppy and kitten food.

PAWS of Knoxville is a program of the Knoxville Knox County Office on Aging that places adoptable senior pets with senior citizens.  They are in need of wet and dry dog and cat food, flea and tick preventative and cat and dog toys.

Coupon Katie Giveaway: Four Free Passes to Knoxville Zoo’s Boo! at the Zoo

boo-at-the-zoo-knoxville

It is mid October and that means it is once again time for one of our favorite Halloween traditions- BOO! at the Zoo.  We went last night for opening night and we all had a great time. The boys got to see some of their favorite animals and favorite Star Wars “guys” and got candy.  That equals a perfect night to them.

What is BOO! at the Zoo?

BOO! at the Zoo presented by U.S. Cellular® is Knoxville’s biggest Halloween event!  It is 12 nights of safe and not-too-scary Halloween fun Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13 and continuing Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 18-21 and Thursday through Tuesday, Oct. 25- 30, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. each evening.

BOO! at the Zoo, a Halloween tradition for 26 years, is a family event featuring devilishly good music and games at the Monster Mash tent in The Clayton Family Kids Cove, friendly costumed characters throughout the zoo, and the only “haunted” carousel in East Tennessee, the Scary-Go-Round. (How can you tell it’s haunted? It goes backwards, of course.)

It wouldn’t be Halloween without the trick-or-treating! One of the highlights of BOO! at the Zoo is the BOO! Trail, where little trick-or-treaters can fill their bag with goodies as they make their way through the zoo. Each night of BOO! at the Zoo will also feature a variety of entertainment, from dancers and jugglers to out-of-
this-world STAR WARS characters. For updated information about each evening’s activities, visit the zoo’s Facebook page.

Boo! at the Zoo tickets are $6 per person. Children under two are admitted free. Parking is $5. Tickets are available at in advance by phone at (865) 637-5331, online at knoxvillezoo.org, or at the zoo’s ticket office during regular zoo hours. Knoxville Zoo members receive a $1 discount on admission and free parking.

Tickets for BOO! at the Zoo can also be purchased at all Knoxville area Kroger stores. (Member discounts not
available at Kroger locations.)

I am excited to announce Coupon Katie is giving away 4 passes to the 2012 BOO! a the Zoo.

One lucky Coupon Katie reader will receive Four (4) free passes to Knoxville Zoo’s BOO! at the Zoo. Good Luck!
