Back to School Shopping Tips:Save Time & Money

Here are some back to school shopping tips I shared on WBIR 10 News at Five tonight. They should help you save time and money as you are getting everyone ready for another school year.

Know what you need

It sounds easy enough but before you look through sale ads or head out to the stores make sure you know exactly what you need and what you already have. Do you have a few things left over from last year or stocked up in a closet?

Make a List, Set a Budget

Make a master list of all the things you need, decide on a budget and then stick to both of them.

Start Now

The Back to School shopping season started early this year and is in full swing.  By spacing shopping out you will get the best deals each week.

Look for Big Discounts

Take advantage of the “loss leaders” different stores are offering. (those items which are priced well below actual cost) By saving on paper and pens you can allocate more of your budget to larger items like quality back packs and calculators that will last a long time.

Shop Around

Look at all kinds of stores. Back to school sales aren’t just at office supply or big chain stores like Target, they are everywhere. Check out drug store, grocery store and craft store ads too.

Price Match

Take advantage of the price matching policies at Wal Mart or Target to get the lowest price on all the supplies you need in one stop.

Shop Late

Save some of your back to school budget for the week after school starts. Back to school items will start to clearance. That is when you stock up on supplies for the rest of the year.
