Coupon Katie's Five Frugal Thanksgiving Tips

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation the classic Thanksgiving dinner will cost 13% more this year over 2010.  Here all the tips I shared on the Fox 43 Morning show this morning to help you save.

1. Know how much Turkey you really need.

The biggest jump in price this year will be on your Turkey- up 20% from last year.  It will save you money if you know how much turkey you really need.

4. Chose the More Frugal Options

  • Dessert- Pumpkin pie is cheaper to make or to buy than cheesecake. Ingles has canned pumpkin for $.78 this week. You can buy a Kern’s pumpkin pie at Food City for $2.99.
  • Beverages-Sweet Tea, Coffee, Lemonade are less expensive options.
  • Use your own dishes, silverware and cloth napkins. Clean up may take a little more time but it is much more cost effective.

5. Make it a Pot Luck Dinner!

Ask everyone coming to bring something to share. This cuts down on cost and work for the host.
